Dicta Guidelines

Guidelines for Dicta Contributors

Dicta serves as a resource for professors, judges and practitioners to author reviews of recent legal books. These reviews are to provide reactions and recommendations rather than summaries of arguments.

The goal of this project is to learn about what scholars are reading and why, so the focus is less on criticism or scholarly analysis and more on insight and opinion. The following is additional guidance for professors and practitioners regarding our editing process and submissions:

  1. Reviews should be in the form of a brief (500–1500 words) essay. Please consult with the editors before submitting a review of another length.
  2. We recommend inclusion of a short paragraph with an overall evaluation of the book.
  3. Reviews should be lightly footnoted and will follow the same editorial process as with the articles, notes, and book reviews published in the Texas Law Review.
  4. Dicta reviews are considered for online publication on a rolling basis. Submission of a review does not guarantee publication.
  5. Reviews will be published on the website in HTML form and in a printable PDF with consecutive page numbers.
